EDI THESIS STUDIO
What if students working on individual projects could support one another in studio environment?
Thesis Studio is an experiment in providing studio-based structure to a cohort of students working on individually driven projects. Students in the MS EDI program complete an individually defined, two-quarter thesis project as a capstone to their experience. Students are paired with an industry mentor and control their own projects from start to finish.
Starting in 2016, Craig Sampson and I led a newly reimagined Thesis Studio. Prior to this, students were essentially on their own to make weekly progress and self-organize to receive feedback. We redesigned the experience based on my experience as a student, Craig's experience as a mentor, and feedback from other students and mentors. We lead a weekly studio session in which we provide feedback, organize timely topic discussions and guest presenters, and allow students to stay up to date with the work their peers are producing.
